Description

Monumental 5-volume edition Flandria Nostra (1957), published by the N.V. Standaard-Boekhandel in Antwerp, Brussels, Ghent and Leuven. Edited by Dr. J.L. Broeckx, Prof. Dr. G. de Clercq, Prof. Dr. J. Dhondt and Dr. M.A. Nauwelaerts.

This series, subtly subtitled "Our country and our people, its stands and professions through the ages", is a great tribute to Flanders and its history. Each volume covers a different aspect of Flemish life: from the medieval classes and crafts to modern society, from art and popular life to economy and landscape.

Lavishly illustrated with maps, photographs and reproductions, the books contain beautiful introductory illustrations of Flanders through the ages, including colorful historical maps of the Seventeen Provinces and the Burgundian state.
